Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred in rural Russell County Saturday night.
A 52-year-old man was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle along Alabama State Route 169 about five miles west of Phenix City.
As he approached mile marker eight, he was struck by a 2007 Chevy Silverado. The crash occurred as the Chevy was entering the roadway, and the force of the accident ejected the motorcycle rider from his seat.
Police arrived at the scene to find the motorcycle rider dead. The driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured.
The authorities later determined that the Chevy driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He is being held at the Russell County Jail without bond. Alabama State Troopers are investigating the matter.
A DUI charge requires a serious defense
A DUI conviction can change your life. The consequences are almost always severe, you could lose your driving privileges, face fines, and even spend time in jail. Of course, this isn’t to mention the damage to your reputation.
However, it’s important to remember that people charged with a crime still have rights. The police and prosecutors must adhere to legal standards before, during, and after the arrest. A misstep by the authorities could result in the case being thrown out.
A DUI defense lawyer can identify flaws in the prosecution’s case and provide a thorough defense of your rights in a court of law.
Birmingham, Alabama residents should act quickly. The early stages of a criminal case have a disproportionate impact on the outcome.
