What Are Alabama’s Penalties For Cocaine/Crack Cocaine?
There are three primary classifications of cocaine-related crimes: possession, distribution and trafficking.
- Possession is a Class D felony. A conviction can result in up to five years in prison and up to $7,500 in fines. Depending on the amount possessed, prosecutors may push for possession with intent to distribute or trafficking charges.
- Distribution is a Class B felony and applies to the sale, delivery or distribution of cocaine/crack cocaine. A conviction can result in up to 20 years in prison and up to $30,000 in fines.
- Trafficking is a Class A felony and applies to the sale, manufacturing or delivery of cocaine/crack cocaine. The punishments vary widely depending on the amount of cocaine being transported. 28 to 500 grams has a minimum three-year prison sentence, while over 10 kilograms can result in life in prison without parole.
