Defending Those Facing Meth Charges In Alabama
Authorities see crystal meth or methamphetamine as a serious problem in Alabama. This is why all charges relating to the use, possession or sale of methamphetamines are treated as felonies.
As such, methamphetamine offenses are aggressively prosecuted — more so than any other drug in Alabama. Prosecutors have significant pressure to curtail these activities, and they use their power to take aggressive action against the accused.
At Simms & Associates, our attorneys will fight to mitigate future consequences. We know the law. We know your rights, and we are here to protect your future.
A Meth Possession Conviction Can Have Lasting Penalties
The extent of the penalties will depend largely on the amount of methamphetamine in question. Alabama uses mandatory minimums for meth possession:
- 28 to 500 grams: Minimum three years in prison and up to $50,000 in fines
- 500 grams to 1 kilogram: Minimum five years in prison and up to $100,000 in fines
- 1 kilogram to 10 kilograms: Minimum 15 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines
- Over 10 kilograms: Mandatory life imprisonment without parole
Whether you are charged with possession, distribution or trafficking, the punishments from a conviction will forever change your life. After completing the punishment if convicted, you will still face barriers when securing employment or residence in the future.
If you are facing meth/methamphetamine/crystal meth charges, we’re ready to help you. We’ll prepare an assertive defense designed to protect your rights and limit the consequences these allegations have on your future.
